All 3rd and 4th graders should come home with a poem today.  Encourage them to read it to many people this weekend!  We will do this most Fridays.

Picking "GOOD FIT" books

We have been getting to know each other and our focus has been on picking GOOD FIT books for our independent reading.  We have talked about how books can be like shoes.  Some are too little (or too easy) and some are way too big (too hard)!  Those kinds of books will not help us to become better readers.  GOOD FIT books are books we are interested in and we can read them on our own.  We use a 5 finger test to tell if it is a good level.  You open to the middle of the book and read the page.  If you come across 5 words that you can't read, read incorrectly or don't know the meaning of the word then the book is not a good fit.  That would mean the book is too hard for you at this time.  GOOD FIT books come in many shapes and sizes......you just have to take the time to find them.
